Why do so many of us feel that life doesn’t fit quite right? Walking the path we were taught to walk, following someone else’s script to a destination that doesn’t seem to be nearing. We mistake “belonging” for “being” and from a young age, we’re conditioned to comply. We conform to societal expectations, cultural norms and outdated traditions – all in the name of fitting in. But this pursuit of belonging comes at a cost: We lose touch with our inner compass that points to our true calling.

Beyond Belonging is your wake-up call. Uncovering the subtle yet powerful forces that govern our lives. The grip of inherited beliefs, the magnetic draw of conformity disguised as belonging. It reveals how our desire for belonging often translates into quiet compliance. Through vivid examples and actionable insights, it exposes how our longing to belong often leads us to betray the very thing we’re searching for – ourselves.

But there’s another way. You can untangle yourself from the noise of others’ expectations and step out of the comfort of the crowd. It’s counterintuitive and it’s not easy. Instead of endlessly adding more to your life, let’s start stripping away what’s not yours so you can step into your own being.

This isn’t a book about fixing yourself; it’s about unlearning everything that’s kept you from your deepest truth. If you’ve ever felt the pull toward something more – something real, something yours – this is your guide to finding the courage to live unapologetically as your weird and wonderful self.

Judy Liu

Judy Liu’s purpose is to help people live courageously as their weird and wonderful selves. For a time, she lived out of a suitcase while being the Head of Learning & Development for a UK listed company – bouncing between hotels, bunkbeds, airport lounges, and couches. She is deeply curious about what happens when people shed themselves of expectations and confront uncomfortable truths. Now, running her own leadership consultancy – The Outlier Mind – she helps leaders bravely connect with their inner knowing. A self-leadership coach and organizational psychologist, but most importantly, a believer that we were born knowing who we are, but we spend our lives forgetting.

Born in Taiwan, brought up in Thailand and Australia and spending most of her career in Singapore, the belonging she struggled with as a kid became her greatest strength. Without being defined by a single culture, she discovered that the boundaries we accept are often illusions, and the discomfort of not belonging is an invitation to uncover a greater freedom. When her role was made redundant in June 2024 after 10 years of service, her most memorable farewell message from a senior leader was “I’m really going to miss your outspokenness” for she always stood for what people felt, but didn’t dare say.

As you step into the realm of Beyond Belonging, she invites you to reimagine your life from the inside out.
